following conditions:-

1. That their contractors be allowed to carry out the

balance of their unexpired contracts which, as has already ben

stated, amount to 152,750 tons.

2. That the Chinese Government, or somebody approved by

them, enter into a contract for a further period of five years to

deliver annually at the Company's option - any desired quantity

of limestone up to say 150,000/200,000 tons, at a price delivered

and landed at the factory in Hongkong of $2.15, Hongkong Currency, or at $2.05, Hongkong Currency, if delivered and landed on the

Company's property in Macao. (Note: the prices above quoted are

those at which a Chinese dealer was prepared to deliver stone

under contract shortly before the announcement by Government last

year of the prohibition of further export).

3. That the deliveries of the balance of the old contracte

begin within one month of the signing of an agreement on the

preceding lines, and continue in equal monthly instalments until

completed, such completion to be carried out before January next.

4. That the terms as outlined above be embodied in writing

and agreed to and confirmed by the Central and Provincial Govern-

-ments, through His Majesty's Legation and the Canton Consulate-

-General.

Granted a desire on both sides to come to an amicable

settlement, Mr. Jamieson ventures to think that the Tutu will

concur with him in holding that an agreement of the nature indicat-

-ed offers an equitable and satisfactory solution of existing difficulties, and he would accordingly earnestly beg that the Tutu

give the proposal careful and serious consideration and that,

should it meet with approval, he bring his utmost influence to

bear on the Industrial Commissioner and others concerned, with a

view to having it accepted and ratified.

Mr. Jamieson is at the same time authorised by His

Majesty's Minister to state that it is only on those conditions

that the Company's claim can be waived and that this is the ut- -most length to which he can go towards arranging an amicable
